Dr. Miles K. Light [Ph.D. Colorado] 

Using economics for international consulting

Dr. Light is research faculty at the University of Colorado in Boulder and an economic consultant. He specializes in the field of Computable General Equilibrium modeling for wide-ranging issues such as climate change, tax and international trade policy, and disaster consequence assessment.   His education is firmly in economic sciences, with a Bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Oregon, and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Most of Dr. Light’s work has been international. He developed the first CGE model for Mongolia, which was used to help design changes to Mongolia’s tax system. Other projects include: the Impact of the Doha Trade Rounds for Egypt; National Accounts overhaul for Kyrgyzstan; Tax Reform policy in Uzbekistan; modeling climate policy and oil demand impacts for Saudi Aramco; computing the dollar-cost of floods for the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS),  measuring demand for newly-legalized marijuana in Colorado; and considering new fisheries’ policies for America’s costal settlements.  

Dr. Light has been teaching or assisting in seminars and courses related to CGE modeling and general economics. In addition to research at the University, Dr. Light’s recent clients include the World Bank, UNDP, USAID, US Bureau of Reclamation, US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Panama Canal Authority, Jamaican Ministry of Finance, government of United Arab Emirates, and Colorado’s Regional Transportation District (RTD).
